A few years ago in Norfolk, VA, I came across these bikes that belonged to two NPD officers. They were taking a dinner break, and this is how they locked up their bikes.

Why don't they market bike lock handcuffs?? Holy shit. I want to get a pair right now to use around campus. Best idea ever.

I worked at a bike shop that serviced the police bikes in the area pretty regularly, stolen wheels were pretty common...they are called "quick release" skewers for a reason, these handcuffs change nothing other than...if you are a thief or just someone who needs to be a dick to cops...now you get a 2-for-1.

Or, remove both front wheels and you have one perfect bike in a matter of seconds.

yup. See ya later cops. Im not one for taking someones stuff...ever...but if you were a f*** the police type, do this, throw it in a ditch in a few miles....walk away. Locks like this only encourage "oh rly?" type thieves.

They have the lamest bikes ever. 'all terrain bikes', which means 'useless on all terrains'. Also, suspension seatposts are for grannies. And also a rear wheel chain catcher is basically a proclamation of 'I'm a dumbass and can't adjust my derailleur, which is literally easier than tying shoe laces'.

I would just do it and leave the "new" bike right there and just wait around for the reaction.

we used to do that do some of the girls we knew back in my rebel days. We would remove the crank arm on one side with my crank puller, and put it on at a 90 or 0 degree offset while they were locked up someplace and watch them try and ride home. Good times.

Still... Aside from teh fact that you don't have to move your hands very far, grip shift is really no better than ye olde fashioned levers.
